When I first started staying home full-time with my kids, I thought I had to schedule every minute or risk falling behind. But the truth? It never worked for us.

Over time, I’ve leaned into a slower, more rhythmic way of living—one that flows with our family, our values, and even the seasons outside. Whether you are a type A, type B, or like me, a type C mom, having some kind of rhythm set up will help you if you’re feeling lost.

Here’s what that looks like in our home most days:

☀️ Morning: Wake-Up

We start slow. Coffee for me, play or books for the kids. Once we’re grounded, we’ll do:

  • Morning basket (activity coloring sheet, short devotional, a song or two)
  • Gentle learning (a letter, songs about days of the week or months of the year, or read-aloud)

🌿 Midday: Movement + Homestead Tasks

We go outside every day—watering plants, feeding chickens, gathering eggs. It keeps us active and there’s always opportunity to learn while we are playing.
Homesteading will help with future science and PE classes, honestly.

🧺 Afternoon: Rest + Reset

After lunch is quiet time. I clean, reset, or prep food. Sometimes the kids craft or help with simple chores. Sometimes they watch a show and I don’t feel guilty about it.

🌅 Evenings: Together + Wind Down

Our evenings vary, but we try to:

  • Eat together
  • Do a family story, activity, walk or tv show
  • Go to bed early-ish

A Few Things That Help:

  • We don’t do everything every day.
  • We keep expectations low and rhythms flexible.
  • I use a weekly rhythm chart

You Don’t Have to Do It All

If you’re in the trenches with littles, trying to raise a few plants and a few readers while staying sane—I’m with you.
We’re doing something good here.

Let’s make space for beauty, rest, and growth—one slow morning at a time.
